Last week a young man named James McAlilly, of Williamsport, was convicted of an assault with an intent to kill and sentenced to six months imprisonment in the county jail. Upon the prayer of his mother, a respectable widow, and the solemn promise of the young man to reform, Judge Davidson suspended execution of the sentence and he was set at liberty. On Saturday he went over to Attica with a son of Dr. Tebbs, of Williamsport, and got upon a drunken carouse. Dr. Tebbs went over to induce his son to come home. This enraged McAlilly, who drew a revolver and fired several times at the doctor, two of the shots taking effect—one in the left side and one in the hand—but doing no serious harm. McAlilly was arrested on various charges and fined about sixty dollars, not having the means to pay his fines, he languishes in jail.
